About Education
Public education has been foundational to the success and innovation that has resulted in the most prosperous society in the history of the world. In West Virginia, Charleston’s slow draining of financial resources from public education has left us with the lowest performing educational system among all 50 states. Restoring our schools will take time so we cannot wait. We cannot wait to raise teacher compensation to a level commensurate with their professional status. We cannot wait to repair PEIA to enhance our ability to compete for the best teachers. We cannot wait to give our schools the resources they need to mitigate the truancy crisis. We cannot wait to stop subsidizing private schools at the expense of public schools. And we cannot wait to introduce the accountability that will give us confidence that we are doing everything in our power to support public education for every child.
